A rising labour shortfall in Manitoba’s Prairie province is anticipated to worsen over the next several years, with a net deficit of 29,600 people for available employment, according to the province’s economic forecast.
Between 2021 and 2025, the Manitoba economy will have 141,700 job opportunities, but only 112,100 new employees will enter the labour market, leaving many job openings unfilled.
According to the economic forecast, “transportation and warehousing; forestry, fisheries, mining, quarrying, oil and gas; and healthcare and social assistance are expected to be the fastest-growing Manitoba industries between 2021 and 2025.”
The sales and service industry is predicted to produce the most employment, 28,000, or 19.8 percent of all job vacancies in Manitoba.
“Job vacancies in trades, transportation, and equipment operator jobs are predicted to be 27,500, or 19.4%, while occupations in education, law, and social, community, and government services are expected to yield 17,300 job openings, or 12.2%,” according to the research.
Many employment were lost during the Covid-19 epidemic because to public health regulations and the developing tendency of doing more online shopping and doing more meetings and activities electronically, including trade exhibitions and conferences. Other vocations have been impacted by the demand for extra healthcare and cleaning services, as well as supply chain interruptions.
As a result, certain jobs are in lower demand while others are in more demand.
Based on Ottawa’s estimates, these are the Top 5 In-Demand Jobs in Manitoba, along with their National Occupational Classification codes.
1. Administrative Assistants (NOC 1241)
Administrative assistants prepare, key in, edit, and proofread mail, invoices, presentations, brochures, publications, reports, and other related material from machine dictation and handwritten copy.
They also process and distribute incoming mail and other material, coordinate information flow with other departments and organisations, and arrange and confirm appointments and meetings for their employers.
The Indeed employment website listed 334 of these opportunities in Manitoba in mid-November, and demand is anticipated to continue strong as firms reopen and work-from-home arrangements become more popular as a result of Covid-19.
Administrative assistants make a median annual pay of $43,875 in Manitoba, based on a 37.5-hour work week, with salaries at the top of the range reaching $67,500.
2. Mail, Postal And Related Workers (NOC 1511)
These employees assist consumers and record transactions at sales counters and postal wickets, as well as process and sort mail and packages at post offices, mail processing factories, and internal mail rooms.
Early in the pandemic, the Covid-19 public health limitations struck this occupational group on the side of the head, pushing down employment by 61% in April last year compared to the previous year. Then internet shopping took off, and the volume of parcel deliveries skyrocketed. The need for these positions is now increasing.
Postal workers get a typical annual wage of $42,900 based on a regular work week, but in Winnipeg, the provincial capital, they may make up to $54,600.
3. Information Systems Analysts And Consultants (NOC 2171)
During the first year of the pandemic, the number of IT employment in Canada increased by around 32% as travel restrictions and lockdowns pushed Canadians to rely on internet purchasing and Zoom meetings.
Analysts and consultants in information systems evaluate and test system requirements, design and implement information systems development plans, policies, and procedures, and give advise on a wide variety of information systems challenges.
They were suddenly in more demand than usual. Indeed offered 128 opportunities for information systems analysts in Manitoba as of mid-November.
Based on a typical work week, these professionals make a median annual pay of $80,170 in Manitoba, but may fetch up to $107,800 in Winnipeg.
4. Computer Programmers And Interactive Media Developers (NOC 2174)
During the pandemic, the same dynamics that increased demand for IT analysts also increased demand for computer programmers and interactive media developers. During the first year of the pandemic, employment in this occupation increased by 15%.
These are the individuals responsible for writing, modifying, integrating, and testing computer code for software applications, data processing applications, operating system-level software, and communications software. Developers of interactive media build, edit, integrate, and test computer code for Internet and mobile apps, computer-based training software, computer games, film, video, and other forms of interactive media.
They earn a typical annual salary of $70,300 in Manitoba based on a 37.5-hour week, but may earn up to $98,000 in the capital city.
5. Home Support Workers And Related Occupations, Excluding Housekeepers (NOC 4412)
